hi, i'm dr. frank lista. here we are outsideoperating room #1 and we're ready to do our first operation of the day, which is a breastaugmentation. now, one of the things that is most important to plastic surgeons is notjust how good a patient looks, but also safety. and so as part of our safety program, we implementa program called the time out check list. so the idea of the time out check list isthat we have a time out at the very beginning of the operation, and we go through the checklist to review everything there is to know about the patient, including something calledthe asa status, which means how healthy this patient is. i've already seen the patientin our pre-op room, and we've talked, said good morning, i've marked her, we've reviewedwhat we've already done, so i've already met

her. she walked down the hall and she hasbeen put to sleep. we're going to go in and while i'm prepping my hands and putting myglove and gown on, the nursing staff and all of us in the room are going to go over thepre-op check list. so this is a regular day here in the operating room, and we're readyto go. good morning.hey. time out everyone.hold on one sec, cat. just let me get my gown on here. so with us in the operating roomthis morning is cat, laurie, and dr. friedland, our talented and excellent o.r. team. so let'sdo the time out. time out. this is jane smith. she's havingii cohesive. her procedure was checked verbally.

it was checked on the front sheet, as wellas her consent has been checked. her asa is a1. she's got no known drug allergies. ancefand dex have been given. the pre-op drugs were given. the warming blanket's on. cauterypad's on. and the sce's are on and pumping. and her patient preference size is 425.thanks, cat. so that's our time out, that's what we do before every operation, and nowwe're going to start surgery. thanks for watching.
